If you’re in need of a stylish, Derby Day outfit in a hurry, this style guide is for you!
Premium online retailer Shopbop has been our outfit saviour on many an occasion. Stocked with more than 800 designers including Marc Jacobs, Phillip Lim, Dolce & Gabbbana – right through to New Zealand’s very own Karen Walker, it’s an absolute treasure trove of fashionable finds.
What’s more, Shopbop offers FREE international express shipping on orders (three days to New Zealand!) meaning those Oscar de la Renta earrings, the Victoria Beckham sunglasses or that Zimmermann dress can be all yours for the upcoming weekend’s festivities.
We’ve cast an eye over the site’s virtual clothing racks & selected three outfits we’ve got our eyes on for Derby Day this year.
Founded in 2010, Australian brand C/Meo Collective is known for its experimental designs and premium fabrics and we are personal fans, having never gone out wearing their designs without receiving numerous compliments.
This dress feels very Jennifer Hawkins to us! At a super smart ‘sale’ price, we think its halterneck style, with cutout shoulders and bold, flared cuffs makes it a great option for someone seeking an on-trend outfit for the immediate future.
Bring it out on race day by teaming with more muted, daytime accessories and perhaps a crown as headpiece, and then make the most of the time you have with it by taking it into the night with strappy heels and bejewelled accessories such as those seen on the model.
Race day fashionistas love a good Self Portrait outfit and we think this rather romantic monochrome dress ticks the Derby Day box nicely.
A sheer neckline and sleeves, along with an exposed zip at the back keep the style modern and, get this, it even comes with hidden side pockets (to keep your betting slips in!).
With this dress, we’d be aiming to channel gorgeous Myer racing ambassador Jodi Gordon who has worn very similar styles at race days across Australia and could team it with a crown or even structured Derby-appropriate headpiece.
Having appeared on Project Runway and with designs featured in publications including Vogue and Elle, you could say that US-based designer Cynthia Rowley knows a thing or two about fashion.
Incorporating on-trend sheer panelling (that conveniently tricks the eye into thinking this dress is also bang-on with an off-shoulder cut), the designer has also picked up on our seasonal love affair of all things Spanish, adding eyelash edges for a flirtatious flourish on this delicate, lace dress.
You could have a lot of fun with your headwear with this one! We would personally channel a Frida vibe – but of course, it’s all up to you!
